With this release, Amnesty International France asked to dismiss the bill providing for the general prohibition of concealment of the face in public space. This bill was considered before the National Assembly and adopted July 13, 2010.

This release fairly explicit reasons for the veil would not be banned in public places, not only because this law is not helpful (particularly in terms of "security" or to "defend women's rights "), but also because it goes against international law and European human rights. Open letter to the MEP’s

Dear Member of the European Parliament,

European Forum of Muslim Women (EFOMW), notes with deep concern, the obsessive debate, the media onslaught and political machinations in regard of the handling of veil issue.

Indeed, the over-coverage of full veil case, despite its marginal nature, maintains an unhealthy atmosphere.

European societies are now facing countless social and economic problems, which require rapid response. In this context, EFOMW regrets using the case of full veil to hide the most important challenges such as unemployment, social injustice, discrimination and environmental protection.
