    Saint-Denis, the 25th January 2006

The recent topicality related on the questions which milked with Islam and more particularly to the fate which would be reserved to the women, again plunges us in polemic virgins of any direction where the rights of Muslim women are called into question by some which denounce their alleged alienation with the man.

However it is in front of all these deceptions and these false ideas conveyed as for its statute, that Muslim women of Europe, anxious to make hear their voice and to fight against the injustices of which they are victims, rise to speak with one voice.

Women above all, Muslim women and proud to be it, European and citizens, they have decided to associate their efforts, their knowledge, their competences and their experiments to diffuse the true image of the Muslim woman.

Thus, the European Forum of Muslim Women organizes on the 5th of March 2006 its first European Congress at the Institute of Sociology of the Université libre de Bruxelles* under the topic:

    Muslim women of Europe

    Which contributions ?

The choice of March 5 is not fortuitous: next 8 March will be celebrated the International Women’s Day and it is thus on this occasion that this congress open to all will be the opportunity to gather, to coordinate, exchange, evaluate, form, propose and create.

    Presentation

The European Forum of Muslim Women has been created at the beginning of 2006, following a series of the European Coordination of Muslim female associations active in several European countries.

The European Forum works within the European Union for the consolidation of bonds and the exchange of experiences between the various members in order to support the involvement of the Muslim woman in the society as a citizen and to better response to her worries and to defend her interests and apply to the European and international authorities.

    Our objectives

    1.      To encourage women to take part and contribute to the social construction of Europe.

    2.      To represent Muslim women within European and international bodies and defend their rights and interests.

    3.      To favour dialogue between citizens of various confessions and philosophical or political tendencies of the society, necessary for a common good well-being.

    4.      To establish bonds of friendship and cooperation with other female associations, of religious or unreligious denomination, of European or international location, which work for the rise of women.

    5.      To struggle against all discriminations in general, and those against Muslim women in particular.

    6.      To participate to the reinforcement of the family unit and encourage her educational role.

    7.      To reinforce in the framework of the European Union, the exchanges and the coordination between all women in general and its members in particular.
