  • 10/01/2008 EFOMW signs the Charter of the Muslims of Europe
  • Worked out by the Federation of the Islamic Organizations in Europe and signed on Thursday January 10 2008 in Brussels, by more than four hundred organizations and Muslims associations of Europe, the "Charter of the Muslims of Europe" affirms the need to consolidate a citizenship based on justice and the values of agreement, peace and social wellbeing.

The charter also affirms that it is necessary "to banish any idea or attitude attacking the woman", and firmly refuses violence  and terrorism. "the Muslim presence in Europe represents an important element in the establishment of the bonds of cohabitation and exchange between the different religions and beliefs", clarifies the charter.

The FIOE initiative has achieved the support of the European Parliament (EP). "This charter falls under the treaty, which recognizes the contribution of the religions to the European Union", esteems Mario Mauro, European deputy EPP (Popular European Party) and Vice-President of the EP. Especially because the text has been signed at the very beginning of year 2008, baptized by the European institutions as "year of the intercultural dialogue".
