  • Islamic Studies and Researches Center on Women issues (ISRCAW)

Islamic Studies and Researches Center on Women Issues was founded in 2009 based on the awareness of the members of European Forum of Muslim women of the urgent and growing need for more researches and studies on women’s issues. The centre was established to initiate field studies and contribute to scientific and intellectual subject matter in order to correct the stereotypical images of Muslim women as well as contributing in the development and advancement of Muslim women character to make a balance between her Islamic identity and participation in social life in Europe.

Today more than ever, Muslim women are facing new challenges in the European societies .These challenges can prevent them from finding a way to maintain their Muslim identity and taking an active role in the social life as European citizen having rights and duties in the same time. They therefore suffer from discrimination and exclusion from public life.
They also are subjected to internal challenges and misconceptions adopted by some Muslims to the status of women and their role in the Islamic way of life. Some Muslims are still mixing between the traditions and customs on the one hand and Islamic values that honour the women in the other hand.

The ignorance of Islamic principles, which raised the status of women, and ill-treatment of some Muslims and the decisions of their behaviour contrary to these principles in Europe, prompted the media to disseminate a lot of negative events in order to devote those negative stereotypes of the place of women in Islam.

The researches of ISRCAW aims to publish studies to the elaboration of a correct perception and a more objective vision about the status of women in Islam and her civilized role in the society, about which confusion, ignorance, prejudices and stereotypes prevail.
Field studies and statistics will provide an accurate and scientific image about the reality of Muslim women in the European societies:
the daily life in the family and community / ambitions / participation in community / suffering / discrimination, and this would facilitate the

Forum understand the reality of Muslim women in Europe and find out their problems in order to defend the rights of Muslim women and make their voice heard.

    ISRCAW Philosophy

ISRCAW is bases on Quran principles and hadiths which consider the human dignity and the values of justice and equality as the main purposes of divine laws and that piety is the only tool to differentiate people:

“And assuredly We have honoured the Children of Adam” ISRA, v.70
“O Humankind verily We! We have created you of a male and female, and We have made you nations and tribes that ye might know one another. Verily the noblest of you with Allah is the most God-fearing of you; verily Allah knows, aware.”
    AL-HUJURAT, v.13
Man and woman have common points in their essence and nature. This sexual difference cannot be a reason for oppressing, disrespecting or humiliating women.
On the opposite, Islam acknowledged this diversity that exists at all levels in the universe, and established that recompense is only the result of actions: “He said: Then their Lord hearkened unto them saying: I let not the work of a worker amongst you to waste, man or woman, one of you from the other.” AL-IMRAN, v.195

The ISRCAW also bases philosophically on the European Constitution and on the Social Rights Chart which establish as well that human dignity and the values of justice and equality of chances are some of the main values in Europe of human rights.

Means of action of the ISRCAW

The ISRCAW plans to do the following to meet its targets:
